Smart systems deliver big savings for Waipā
Ratepayers are reaping the benefits of Waipā’s investment in smarter systems, with the council recently recognised by leading Australasian software provider TechnologyOne for its achievements.
By moving to TechnologyOne’s fully integrated OneCouncil financial platform Waipā has reduced costs, saved staff time, and strengthened financial controls. The shift away from time-consuming paper-based systems has also enabled faster, more accurate payments – directly supporting local suppliers and tradespeople.
Since implementation, processing costs have dropped by 66 percent and an estimated 1920 hours of manual data entry have been saved. Today, more than 95 percent of invoices are automatically matched to purchase orders.
Acting Group Manager Business Support Georgina Knapp said the results show how technology, when used strategically, delivers real value for the community.
“This work has delivered stronger financial controls, fewer errors, reduced fraud risk, improved transparency and auditability, and faster payments.
“Importantly, it also supports our local tradespeople and suppliers by ensuring they are paid accurately and on time. That directly benefits our local economy and ensures we are using ratepayer dollars wisely.”
As councils across New Zealand face increasing financial pressures, Waipā’s approach shows what can be achieved when modern technology is paired with new ways of working.
