Deadline looms for Waipā voters without election packs

Waipā voters who haven’t received their election packs still have time to make their voices heard. Special voting packs are available – but residents are urged to act quickly.

Deputy Electoral Officer Jo Gread said Friday is the final day Council can post out special voting packs.

“Special votes are available for anyone on the unpublished roll, those who enrolled after August 4, or if your voting papers have been damaged or have not arrived.”

Special votes can be made in person at Council offices during normal hours, or at one of our pop-up voting locations at local community events in the lead-up to the final voting deadline, which is midday on Saturday, October 11.

The pop-up locations include Te Awamutu feeder calf sale at Paterangi Road saleyards, BNZ Cambridge, Hamilton Airport and the Rosetown Market, and can be found on the council website – waipadc.govt.nz/vote.

Waipā is also providing ‘drive-throughs’ for people to drop off their completed papers on the final voting morning, one at each Council office.

If you have not yet enrolled and want to vote, you must update your details with the Electoral Commission by Friday, October 10.

Alongside the 2025 local elections, Waipā voters have the opportunity to vote in binding poll on whether to keep or remove the Māori Ward from 2028.

“It doesn’t matter whether you’re on the Māori roll or the General roll – everyone gets to vote in this poll,” Gread says.

The poll question is included on the voting papers. Regardless of the result, the Waipā Māori Ward will remain in place for the 2025-28 term.
