Preliminary results confirm Waipā will welcome Mike Pettit as Mayor
Preliminary election results have confirmed Mike Pettit as Mayor-Elect for the Waipā District. The preliminary results show there has been a change in representation for the Cambridge Ward from Saturday’s progress count.
Pettit has extended his lead over Susan O’Regan, and is now ahead by 1200 votes. Pettit received 7044 votes followed by O’Regan (5822) and Clare St Pierre (3748).
With special votes still to be counted, some ward results remain close.
For Cambridge, Jo Davies-Colley and Roger Gordon remain the clear front runners for two of the four seats on 3906 and 2658 votes respectively.
Aidhean Camson has jumped into third place on 2066. Camson was fifth in Saturday’s progress results on 1417.
Pip Kempthorne remains at the table on the preliminary results but has moved from third place to fourth with 1973 votes.
Dave Marinkovich is now in fifth place (1930), followed by Hope Spooner (1904) who has moved from fourth spot to sixth.
Two other sitting councillors, Philip Coles and Lou Brown, have not been returned.
The results will also see the Waipā Māori Ward removed at the 2028 election with 9095 votes for its removal, over 6772 who wanted it retained.
Voter return has slightly increased from the last elections to 41.25 percent (16,991), excluding special votes still to be counted.
Final results are expected on Thursday, October 16.

Te Awamutu and Kihikihi Ward: Shane Walsh, Dean Taylor, Marcus Gower.
Cambridge Ward: Jo Davies-Colley, Roger Gordon, Aidhean Camson, Pip Kempthorne.
Pirongia and Kakepuku Ward: Clare St Pierre, Les Bennett.
Maungatautari Ward: Mike Montgomerie (elected unopposed).
Waipā Māori Ward: Dale-Maree Morgan.
Cambridge Community Board
Cambridge Subdivision: Charlotte FitzPatrick, Gerda Venter, Chris Minneé, Stewart Dromgool. Maungatautari Subdivision: Andrew Myers.
Te Awamutu and Kihikihi Community Board
Te Awamutu and Kihikihi Subdivision: Ange Holt, Liam Bullen, Jill Taylor, John Wood.
Kakepuku Subdivision: Kane Titchener (elected unopposed).
