Waipā District roading updates
Baffin Street bridge
The bridge piles have had an initial assessment and the bridge is safe to use – resident access only please! We now need to wait for the water level to drop and clear debris for a more detailed assessment.
Mangauika bridge
We’re working on a temporary solution and expect this to be in place by Sunday February 22. Cranes are required as it’s a large structure. Resident access is available from either end.
Corcoran Road
We’re working on clearing water from the blocked drain. Once we get the water level low enough, we’ll remove the debris blocking the culvert and assess the road. More information to come.
Whatauri Road culvert
The team onsite is making great progress in clearing debris. The culvert is massive, very damaged and not easily replaced. We’re working on installing a temporary access upstream of the culvert. We aim to have it installed by the end of the week. However, we need to take a staged approach, reviewing structural integrity before opening to trucks – which could take another week. We’ll provide further updates as we know more.
State Highway 39
Work is underway to clear Mangati Bridge. Installing a single-lane temporary bridge is currently being considered to span the stream and reconnect locals while a permanent solution is built. Follow NZTA for updates on SH39.
Pirongia water
We’re working on a solution to connect Pirongia to the Te Awamutu water supply. We expect this solution to be in place by Sunday. The reservoir at Te Tahi water treatment plant has been drained and our team is onsite this afternoon to assess the impacts. We’ll have more information in the next few days.
Please do not move road cones. Obey all closures and barriers, and do not attempt to cross closed roads. Thanks for staying safe and looking after each other.
