Waipā District roading updates - February 19, 2026
Mangauika Road bridge closed
The road is currently inaccessible at the bridge. Resident access is available from either end.
Corcoran Road closed
Work to clear water from the blocked drain and debris blocking the culvert is progressing well. However the road remains closed.
Whatauri Road closed
We're making good progress with the temporary access in place. A temporary access on the far side of the stream is being built.
Baffin Street bridge
An initial assessment has been done, and the bridge is safe to use for resident access only, please. No substantial debris on the piers is visible, and once the water drops, a more detailed assessment will be done.
Waipapa Road
The road remains open in Waipā and Ōtorohanga; however, it is closed in the Taupō district. Signs are in place to warn travellers that the road is closed ahead.
O’Shea Road
The road is open to light vehicles only.
State Highway 39 closed
SH39 remains closed between Te Tahi and Ngutunui Roads due to the Mangati Bridge damage. Installing a single-lane temporary bridge is currently being considered to reconnect locals while a permanent solution is built. Visit the NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi's website for updates on SH39.
