Have a creative idea that needs a boost? The Creative Communities Scheme is now open for applications, offering funding to support arts, culture and creative projects across Waipā.
From filmmaking to kapa haka, singing to weaving, the scheme welcomes projects that bring people together and strengthen community connections. There is $32,000 up for grabs this funding round, thanks to Creative New Zealand.
Previous recipients have already seen the impact of the fund. Funding support enabled A.I.O Puppets to deliver their Tales from the Pā Harakeke performance and puppetry workshop in Te Awamutu last year.
Puppet show performer and workshop facilitator Ifat Vayner said the funding helped create a well-prepared and engaging event for the community.
“The funding meant we could properly prepare for the show and workshop, promote it locally, and offer tickets at an affordable price,” Vayner said.
“It was fantastic to see such a multigenerational and diverse audience taking part – using humour and silliness to tell their own stories through the puppets.
“Everyone got involved and really enjoyed themselves. We all got to know each other, and it was special to see people who had only just met working and playing together.”
To be eligible, projects must support at least one of the scheme’s priorities: Encouraging youth engagement, access and participation in the arts, and/or diversity.
Grants typically range from $500 to $5,000. Applications are assessed by a committee of local arts representatives, who allocate funding on behalf of Creative New Zealand.
The funding round is open now and closes on Tuesday, March 31, 2026.
