Have your say on proposed plan change for Leamington
People are being invited to have their say on a proposal to rezone nearly 100 hectares of grazing land on the south-eastern side of Leamington in Cambridge.
The proposal, known as Private Plan Change 37 (PC37), has been publicly notified by Waipā District Council today.
PC37 has been lodged by Milan Park Stud and seeks to rezone approximately 98.6 hectares, currently used for equine activities and pasture, to enable medium density residential development. If approved, it could enable 1250 houses to be built on the site.
District plan and growth manager, Wendy Robinson, says this stage is all about giving the community an opportunity to be involved. Public notification is a formal step in the process, required under the Resource Management Act.
“We know decisions about growth and development matter to our community,” Robinson says.
“This is an opportunity for people to take a look at what’s being proposed and share their views before any decisions are made. Accepting it for notification does not indicate Council’s support or approval of the proposal.”
The proposed rezoning includes around 45.71ha currently zoned Deferred Residential, which is identified for future growth beyond 2035, as well as 52.89ha that is currently zoned Rural and not planned for urban development.
Public notification allows anyone to have their say by making a submission to the proposal.
“You don’t need to be an expert to make a submission,” Robinson says. “It’s important we hear from the community about what this could mean for them and for Cambridge more broadly.
“If this proposal affects you, or you have a view on how Cambridge grows, we encourage you to take part.”
Submissions are open from today, March 26 and close at 5pm on Tuesday, April 28.

Following the submissions process, a public hearing will be held before a decision is made.
