Infrastructure upgrade programme sets Hautapu up for long‑term growth

Construction on a major programme of transport and water infrastructure to support Hautapu’s rapid industrial growth will begin in July, backed by funding approved through Waipā District Council’s Long-Term Plan.

The Hautapu Infrastructure Programme brings six major projects into a single, co‑ordinated build, allowing Council to deliver critical infrastructure sooner, reduce disruption and give businesses greater certainty about what is being built and when.

Projects include a large stormwater basin at the end of Allwill Drive (the first to break ground), a new reticulated wastewater network and water supply upgrades.

Upgrades to Hautapu Road will see kerb, channel and improved lighting. Traffic lights will be put in as part of the improvement of the intersection of Hautapu Road and Allwill Drive. A new roundabout at the Hautapu Road and State Highway 1B intersection is also planned, as is a new pump station to support future growth.

Mayor Mike Pettit said the work reflects Hautapu's significance to both the district and the wider regional economy.

"Hautapu sits at the heart of New Zealand's economic golden triangle," Mayor Pettit said. "Businesses are already investing there, and more growth is coming. Our role as Council is to make sure the essential infrastructure is in place to support that growth safely, sustainably and efficiently."

By packaging the projects together, Council expects to better manage construction impacts, control costs and provide clearer sequencing information for local businesses, freight operators and residents.
