Have your say on proposed development for Ōhaupō

A proposal to rezone approximately 21.5 hectares of pastoral farmland on the southern edge of Ōhaupō is open for public feedback from today.

Private Plan Change 36 (PC36) has been lodged by Honeycomb Developments LP and seeks to rezone land at 5, 7 and 13 Ryburn Road and 4336 Ōhaupō Road from Rural to Large Lot Residential.

The proposal also includes a new structure plan, which will guide how the land is developed, and seeks to remove a planning rule that restricts development visible from State Highway 3.

District plan and growth manager, Wendy Robinson, says this stage is all about giving the community an opportunity to be involved. Public notification is a formal step in the process, required under the Resource Management Act, and allows anyone to have their say by making a submission.

"We know decisions about growth and land use matter to our community," Robinson says.

"This is an opportunity for people to take a look at what's being proposed and share their views before any decisions are made. It's important we hear from the community about what this could mean for them and for Ōhaupō more broadly.

"If this proposal affects you, or you have a view on how the township grows, we encourage you to lodge a submission."

Submissions are open from Thursday, June 4, and close at 5pm on Thursday, July 2.
