Proposed rezoning of Te Awamutu golf course land open for feedback
If you have views on a proposal to rezone part of the Te Awamutu Golf Course to allow residential development, now is the time to have your say.
Te Awamutu Golf Club Incorporated is seeking to rezone approximately 16.2 hectares of the club’s 65-hectare rural-zoned site at Kihikihi Road and Golf Road to Medium Density Residential. This would require a private plan change to the Waipā District Plan.
The proposal, known as Private Plan Change 34, is now open for public submissions.
In its application, the club says the proceeds from selling the land would fund the purchase of adjoining land and a full redevelopment of the golf course.
The club has operated from the site between Te Awamutu and Kihikihi since the early 1930s. It says the existing course layout creates ongoing safety risks from golf balls being hit on to the road, as well as drainage problems that cannot be fixed without expanding the site’s boundaries.
The proposal includes stormwater management wetlands and recreational reserve areas.
District plan and growth manager Wendy Robinson says public notification gives the community a chance to have its say on a proposal that could impact them.
“If this proposal affects you — as a neighbour, a road user, a club member, or a member of the wider community – please let us know what you think.”
Submissions on Private Plan Change 34 will close at 5pm on Friday, November 20.
