Cambridge is a step closer to a new 137-bed hotel, with resource consent granted for the Victoria Road development. It’s a welcome boost for the town, giving visitors more places to stay and supporting the many events held across Waipā throughout the year.
Waipā Mayor Mike Pettit said the hotel was fantastic news for Cambridge and the wider district.
“As the Home of Champions, we host amazing sporting and community events all year round. More quality accommodation means we can welcome more athletes, supporters and visitors, and encourage them to stay and enjoy our towns,” Mayor Pettit said.
“Being right off the expressway makes this a real asset for the whole of Waipā. It’s another great sign of a growing, welcoming district that’s positively open to business and we can’t wait to see it take shape.”
Features of the proposed hotel include:
- 137 guest rooms over four floors
- 106 onsite car parks
- Conference facilities and meeting rooms
- Outdoor swimming pool
- Gymnasium
- Rooftop restaurant and bar
- Café
- Landscaped areas
The consent was granted to developer VicRoad 1 Limited on October 23 which also includes two new public roads and a new intersection onto Victoria Road, with an internal road leading to the hotel entrance. The building will sit well back from the surrounding roads and the nearest homes.
The site is located just off the Waikato Expressway, near Hautapu, making it easy for travellers, teams and event-goers to reach Cambridge, explore further afield and get back on the road home.
The developer will now work through a number of consent conditions before moving to the next stage. This involves submitting several plans to Council, such as a construction management plan, traffic management plans, a landscape plan, and a noise and vibration management plan.
Once work gets under way, construction is expected to take around 18 to 24 months.
