Road resealing season is here

Waipā’s road resealing season is about to get underway, with 60 kilometres of local roads set for attention between October and March.

Spring through to autumn is the best time to carry out this work, as warmer conditions enable the best results.

This season, Cambridge Road (Te Awamutu), Arapuni Road and Maungatautari Road will all see significant stretches resealed.

Transportation operations team leader Jennifer Braithwaite said the resealing programme plays an important role in keeping our roads safe and reliable.

“Resealing helps protect roads from water damage, extending the life of our roads, while creating a smoother, safer surface for everyone. It’s about taking care of what we have so our community can travel safely for years to come,” she said.

Before resealing begins, crews carry out repairs to the road surface, drainage, and kerb and channel. Residents directly affected will receive a letter about two weeks before work starts, with details about when it’s happening and how long it’s likely to take.

While work is underway, people can expect to see traffic management in place, heavy machinery and crews on site, and areas with loose stones. Reduced speed limits will apply for everyone’s safety.

“Thank you in advance for your patience and understanding as we carry out essential roadworks in your area,” Braithwaite said.

“We know roadworks can be an inconvenience, but slowing down really does make it safe for our road workers and prevents damage to the newly laid surface of the road.”

The speed limit on newly sealed roads is set at 30km/hr to help the stone chips to compact and interlock properly, which is key to creating a strong, long-lasting surface.
