64,000 library items to be moved
5 September 2016
Te Awamutu's existing library will close for three weeks in early October to allow up to 64,000 items to be moved and new systems to be tested.
Te Awamutu's brand new library, on the corner of Mahoe Street and Selwyn Lane, will open to the public on the afternoon of Friday October 21 following an official opening in the morning. The new $4.4 million library building will replace cramped premises in Roche Street.
The old library will close for good at 1pm on Saturday, October 1. Books will still be available via the library's online e-book collection at www.waipalibraries.org.nz or from the library in Cambridge.
District librarian Alison Gordon said there are more than 3,700 e-books available to members online with Waipa's e-book collection growing all the time.
This would be a good chance for those who haven't accessed it yet to have a look.
Books to be returned during the closure period should go back to the new library - not to the old building. An after-hours slot to the right of the new library's main doors on Selwyn Lane will be operating from 10am, Monday October 3. Librarians have asked that readers not return books to the Te Awamutu museum or council building and instead drop them at the new building or hold them until the new library opens.
During the closure, the library will extend loan periods so books will not be due back while the library is closed. It means no-one will incur late penalties.
During the closure, books can be renewed at the Cambridge library (including by phone 823 3838), via the library website or by using the app BookMyne. Online services will need a members' barcode and pin number.
Te Awamutu's new library will open on October 21 with extended hours. The library will be open from 9am - 5pm on Mondays and Thursdays, from 9.30am - 5pm on Tuesday, from 9am-8pm on Wednesdays and Fridays and on Saturdays from 9.30am - 1pm.
