Council ready for leaf fall
21 April 2017
Residents are once again being asked to play their part during the autumn leaf fall.
Council leaf collections will start next month, as the leaves begin falling in problem areas around Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Kihikihi. The collection will run for 12 weeks.
Letters are being delivered to affected residents this week advising people to pile leaves on berms two days before the collection. Residents are also being asked to remove branches from the pile as they can damage machinery and slow the collection down.
Collection days can be found here: www.waipadc.govt.nz/leaf
Waipa District Council road corridor manager Bryan Hudson said Council, like our residents, takes pride in keeping our towns looking tidy and to a high standard.
Residents in the affected areas work with council each year to ensure the clean-up is efficient and we thank them for doing their part. The character of our towns is helped along by our tree-lined streets but safety is a priority.
The collection means footpaths aren't left slippery and drains are kept clear. It's a big job but worth it. Wet weather can slow the collections down but contractors will always do their best to make up the time, Hudson said.
More than 50 streets are covered by the collection. The work is done by Metallic Sweeping Ltd.
