Creative funding supports Waipa communities

Waipa's creative community is being encouraged to apply for more than $40,000 in funding ring-fenced to support arts events and projects in the district.
The funding is provided by Creative New Zealand via its Creative Communities Scheme and is given to the council to administer each year.
Last year recipients in Te Awamutu included Pirongia and Kihikihi included Rosetown Choristers Inc., Te Awamutu Free Concert in the Park Trust, Claudia Latisnere - Illustrator and story writer, Weaver Aotearoa Marae, Kanohi Kitea Charitable Trust, Enrich + , Kapa Haka Festival, Te Awamutu Competitions Society of Performing Arts, Kihikihi Steampunk, Taiohi Theatre Wānanga, Colour Burger Studio, Strictly NextGen, Te Awamutu Creative Fibre Workshops, Te Awamutu Music Federation Gala and Pou Matariki.
In Cambridge, recipients included the Cambridge Society of Arts, Cambridge Creative Fibre, St Peters Catholic School production, Armistice in Cambridge Dance and music performance, Royal Scottish Country Dance Society, Cambridge Autumn Festival and Cambridge Community Arts Council.
Funding is open to projects that run between 1 November 2017 and 31 May 2018 and that fit at least one of the scheme's three criteria; access and participation, diversity or young people.
Applications for funding are open now and close on 29 September 2017. Grants are allocated by a committee including local community arts council members and people with arts experience.
