Dogs a hot topic
28 August 2015
Dogs have proven to be a popular issue in Waipa with more than 170 people having their say on Council's recent dog control policy and bylaw review.
Council's Environmental Services Team Leader, Karl Tutty was happy with the level of interest as well as the topics raised.
The team enjoyed getting out in the community and talking to everyone in particular the dog owners at our pooch photobooth sessions held at dog exercise areas.
Moving away from the traditional hearing process most policy consultations follow, Council have opted for a more public-friendly' way to invite people to speak to their submissions.
Submitters were generally very supportive of Council's policy, and also raised a range of issues they wanted Council to consider, many of which related to dog exercise areas, signs, fencing and the doggie-doo bins
We also had 37 people indicate they would like to discuss their views with elected members and we are in the process of organising discussion sessions in September for those people. They will have the opportunity to ask questions and present their views in an informal and comfortable environment.
Following the discussion sessions, the Mayor and Councillors will consider all feedback they have received at a deliberation meeting on 29 September. The final policy and bylaw will be adopted on 27 October.
Consultation on Council's Dog Control Policy and Bylaw review ran from 14 July - 17 August.
