Don’t wait, put your bins out

Waipa District Council is reminding residents to put recycling out for collection over the Easter and ANZAC holidays.
Council contractor Metallic Sweeping Ltd is now collecting recycling on public holidays which means there is no one-day delay.
The improvement is part of the upcoming changes to Council's recycling service which will see the blue recycling crates replaced by two purpose-built wheelie bins for each household; a 140-litre bin for glass (collected monthly) and a 240-litre bin for plastic, tins, cans, paper and cardboard (collected fortnightly).
Group manager - service delivery Barry Bergin said the change was positive for both the community and truck drivers.
Continuing the recycling collection service throughout public holidays means drivers get their
weekend off to enjoy with their families like everyone else and also means there is a consistent service for the community and no confusion.
Currently our drivers spend their weekends catching up after a public holiday and we think it's safer to give them a proper rest. Anything we can do to reduce driver fatigue is important while continuing to provide the best service we can for the Waipā district.
If recycling is normally collected on a Friday, Monday or Thursday then it will still be collected on Good Friday, Easter Monday and ANZAC Day.
The public holiday recycling collection will have no impact on rubbish collection in Waipā district. Rubbish collection continues to be a private service and is not managed by Council. Anyone having issues with their rubbish collection should contact their private provider.
