Flags flying at Council offices
25 January 2016
The existing New Zealand flag and the proposed silver fern flag, selected in the first referendum, are flying outside Waipa District Council's Te Awamutu and Cambridge offices.
The Council is one of a number of locations nationwide where people can view the flags until the second referendum closes on 24 March 2016.
Chief Executive, Garry Dyet says flying the flags gives the Waipa community on opportunity to see the flags flying in real-life situations.
The flag referendum is a heavily debated topic, while Waipa District Council doesn't have a view on the issue, we want to support our community in making an informed decision and allow them to see both flags in action.
Mayor Jim Mylchreest said flying the flags allows the community to really decide which one they liked best.
The choice is greater than just seeing the flags on a piece of paper. We need to see both flags flying on a flag pole, we need to pass them regularly and really understand the choice we're making.
The flags are been flown at over 40 locations across the Waikato. For more information and to view the list of locations, visit www.flag.govt.nz.
