Focus on senior road users
23 February 2017
Senior road users will be under the spotlight in Te Awamutu next month.
Road users aged 60-plus are being targeted by a special Road Safety Expo for seniors.
Waipa road safety co-ordinator Megan Jolly said while the day's activities had a senior focus everyone was welcome.
We'd love to see grandparents come along with their teenage grandchildren for example because we will have information there for those about to sit their licence.
Expo activities will include presentations from the NZ Police, a driving testing officer and a local general practitioner, Dr Henk Kroesbergen. There will be a focus on give way rules and roundabouts and tyre safety plus a presentation on driverless cars.
Participants will be invited to test-drive and find out more about mobility scooters and check out the latest electric-assist bicycles. Information on walking and cycling groups will be available to encourage new members and participation.
Hyundai will also be on site, showcasing its latest electric car complete with autonomous braking and adaptive cruise control. There will be a display of classic cars plus entertainment on site and refreshments for sale.
Information flyers are available now from the Council offices in both Cambridge and Te Awamutu, or from Council's website:
