Funds for war commemorations
13 January 2017
New money is available to help the Waipa community commemorate ANZAC and Armistice.
Waipa District Council has set aside $10,000 to support community projects occurring between March and December 2017.
Projects could range from an event or performance to an artwork, exhibition or education programme. The application must come from a not-for-profit group or organisation and the project must happen within the Waipa district.
Waipa mayor Jim Mylchreest said there was growing support and interest in Waipa for both ANZAC Day and Armistice commemorations. The council wanted to encourage community awareness and understanding of both.
We'd also like to see groups involved that may not have been involved before. If a small cash injection would help get those groups over the line, then we would probably be able to support what's planned, he said.
Applications for funding are now open. Applicants should download an application form from www.waipadc.govt.nz/ww100 or pick one up from any Council office.
Applications will close on February 17 with decisions made in early March. Applications received after the closing date will not be accepted.
