Gambling rules review underway
Council are welcoming feedback on the gambling rules that are set for Waipa.
After reviewing their two gambling policies, only minor changes have been made and the draft versions are now out for consultation so the wider community can have their say.
The Gambling Venue Policy defines where gaming venues can be located, and how many gaming machines are allowed in Waipa and the Board Venue Policy defines where stand-alone board venues (TABs) can be located in the district.
Council's Environmental Services Team Leader, Karl Tutty believes the gambling policies are working well and because of this, only a few minor changes have been proposed. This has been backed up by feedback from key stakeholders who were contacted earlier this year.
We know gambling can cause harm in our communities, and we believe we have the balance right when it comes to what we allow, and what we control. We encourage people to have a look at the draft policies and give us their feedback so we can take these in to consideration.
People can have their say on the policies until 17 August. Following the consultation period, submitters will have the opportunity to present their submissions at a hearing with elected members in September.
You can have your say here or you can view the policies and make a submission at Council offices or libraries.
