Green light for District Plan - finally
26 July 2017
Ten years after work first began, Waipa District Council's district plan is now fully operative.
The District Plan is a cornerstone document and frames how the Waipa district will develop. It provides guidance and rules on development and subdivision and protects important buildings, landscapes and natural areas.
Today councillors resolved to make the District Plan fully operative following the resolution of the remaining two outstanding issues.
Planning and regulatory manager Wayne Allan said for most people, it was business as usual. But it was particularly good news for landowners wanting to develop in the Houchens Road structure plan area, he said. The two outstanding matters, now resolved, related to proposed roading mitigation works and stormwater disposal.
The District Plan became operative in part in November 2016 so for most people it will be business as usual, Allan said.
But today's decision clears the way for development in the Houchens Road structure plan area to begin.
All landowners in the area will be advised of the rules and regulations relating to potential subdivision and development opportunities within coming weeks.
Even though the District Plan is now fully operative a number of reviews are already underway including potentially providing incentives for landowners to allow rural land to be used for cycleways.
