Heritage awards open
27 July 2015
Entries are now open for Waipa's bi-ennial heritage and biodiversity awards.
The awards raise awareness and celebrate social, cultural and natural heritage in the district. They recognise those who have contributed to the preservation and promotion of Waipa's unique heritage and biodiversity.
Heritage award categories are: restoration and preservation; adaptive reuse and/or design; promotion, access and interpretation; public or community service and traditional skills and knowledge.
Biodiversity award categories are: retention, restoration and management of natural features; natural heritage education, natural heritage tourism and public/community service.
The top entry from both sections will be awarded the BCD Supreme Award.
The awards are open to any projects completed in the Waipa district before entries close on 4 September.
In 2013, 19 award entries were received. Cambridge's Lauriston Park took top honours in the heritage category with Pirongia's Te Aroaro o Kahu Restoration Society claiming the top biodiversity prize.
Entry packs are available now from Waipa District Council offices, Te Awamutu and Cambridge libraries and museums and here. For more information about the awards, contact Rowan Miller at Waipa District Council (rowan.miller@waipadc.govt.nz).
