Heritage funding sought
7 February 2017
Heritage funding applications worth more than $253,000 have been received for a fund with just $35,000 left to spend.
Sixteen groups or individuals have applied to Waipa District Council's heritage fund, wanting their share of the $35,000 left from the $70,000 available annually. Support is being sought for natural heritage projects (wetland restoration and protection, pest control etc), built heritage projects (sign restoration, painting, fencing etc) and cultural/archaeological heritage.
Funding applications range from $2,571 to help restore a kahikatea stand, to more than $61,000 for a wetland restoration.
A working group has been appointed to consider the applications made up of councillors Sue Milner, Bruce Thomas and Hazel Barnes plus Nga Iwi Toopu o Waipa representative Poto Davies.
The working group has the power to call on external expertise as required and will meet as soon as possible.
