Heritage fund now open
1 December 2014Waipā's heritage enthusiasts are once again being invited to apply for funding to help preserve and enhance the district's unique heritage.
Waipa District Council administers a $70,000 Heritage Fund to help manage historic buildings and protect and restore significant natural, cultural and archaeological sites within the Waipā district.
Funding can be used to help pay for specialist advice but cannot be used for the creation of new monuments, oneoff events or the design, build or renovation of historic replicas.
Two allocations are made from the fund each year with funding decisions made by the council's Heritage Committee.
Applications are now welcome for the December round of funding.
In this year's first round, four applications were approved by the committee in July for projects totaling $13,624. The projects included burglary and fire protection at St John's Church, restoration work at Rotopiko, replacement downpipes at St John's Church at Rangiaowhia, and transmitters for 18 kiwi at Maungatautari.
This means that there is more than $50,000 available for worthy projects in the current December round.
Funding applications can be made by individuals, trusts, companies, community groups or departments within council, but must be made on an official application form.
Forms are available from council offices or online at www.waipadc.govt.nz/heritagefund
Applications must be received by 30 December 2014.
