Leave the pick up to Council
29 April 2016
Residents are being asked to team up with Council this Autumn when it comes to keeping streets tidy from leaf litter.
Leaf collections will begin on 2 May in problem areas throughout Cambridge, Te Awamutu and Kihikihi and will run for 12 weeks during the leaf fall.
Letters will be delivered to residents who receive the service and there is a leaf collection tool available at www.waipadc.govt.nz/leaf which residents can use to check their leaf pick up day.
Waipa District Council road corridor manager Koos Lelieveld said Council takes great pride in keeping the towns maintained to a high standard and the leaf collection is an important way of doing this throughout the Autumn months.
It's no doubt our trees are a big part of our neighbourhoods and the leaf collection means we can keep our streets tidy and safe.
The leaves can make footpaths very slippery when they get wet and also the build up can cause drains to block. The regular collection is a big job but well worth the effort.
Council will collect leaves from more than 50 streets and rely on help from residents to get around the district.
If people in these areas want leaves from their private properties collected then all they have to do is pile them up on the grass berm ready for the trucks to come and collect.
Weather can cause short delays in the collection service but residents can follow the Waipa District Council's Facebook page for regular updates on delays.
