Motorcycle club gets consent
23 September 2016
Cambridge Motorcycle Club can continue using its existing track in Cambridge for at least the next five years.
The club has been granted a resource consent to continue operating from its Rowlings Place track until at least 2021.
After that, should the land adjoining the track be re-zoned for residential growth, the club's resource consent will lapse and it will be unable to run events from the current site. If the land is not re-zoned, the club will be able to stay and operate until 2026.
The decision to grant the minimum five year and maximum 10-year resource consent was made by independent hearings commissioner Andrew von Dadelszen and released today by Waipa District Council.
In his decision Mr von Dadelszen said the consent was granted in recognition that the club offers a substantial recreation facility for its local community'.
Under current rules, the club is allowed to run six motocross events from March to the end of September on the fourth Sunday of each month.
The new consent allows six events a year from March until the end of November, also on the fourth Sunday of each month. It allows a further five additional events over the next 10 years, also to be held between March and November. There can be no more than two further events each year, limited to either a school racing event on a weekday, or a regional or national championship held over a two-day weekend.
The commissioner has ruled there must be a minimum of 14 race-free days between events. The number of races at events has been limited to 30, each no more than 10 minutes long. Practice sessions have also been limited. Events can only be held between 9.30am - 4.30pm and engines cannot be run outside that time.
Waipa District Council received 140 written submissions in regard to the application; 112 in support, 27 in opposition and one invalid. Forty submitters appeared in person before the hearings commissioner.
The full decision can be read online at www.waipadc.govt.nz. Copies can be picked up from Council offices in either Te Awamutu or Cambridge.
