Three Cambridge roads have new names from today (1 July).
Parts of Forrest, Hannon and Watkins roads in the Hautapu area have been renamed after being divided by the Cambridge section of the Waikato Expressway. Changes are as follows:
Forrest Road
- the section north of the Expressway and north of Hautapu Road changes to Broadmeadows Place. Broadmeadows was the estate between Peake Road and Discombe Road and features strongly in local history.
- the section north of the Expressway and south of Hautapu Road will change, however, Council is still in discussions with residents and a decision will be made on the name within the next month. This section will remain Forrest Road until further notice.
- The section south of the Expressway will stay as Forrest Road.
Hannon Road
- The section north of Expressway will stay as Hannon Road.
- The section south of the Expressway changes to Abergeldie Way. This is to recognise the heritage listed building on the road.
- The private road at 51 Hannon has now been titled Hunter Lane following a consensus amongst owners.
Watkins Road
- The section north of the Expressway changes to Wells Place. This is after Mervyn Wells who was the first Cambridge born Mayor.
- The section south of the Expressway remains Watkins Road.
New signs will be in place from 1 July and NZ Post and Emergency Services have been notified of the changes. The road names were decided on following a consultation process with residents and local Iwi where they were able to suggest names for the roads.
