Next step in search for water
5 May 2016
Drilling for a new test bore will begin next week in the Picquet Hill area, off Mc Nair Road in Te Awamutu. The drilling is part of Waipa District Council's ongoing search for an additional water source for Te Awamutu.
Picquet Hill was identified as a possible water site because of its proximity to water reticulation and other successful bores.
To safeguard the community and restrict access to the wider site area, the playground at Mc Nair Park (190 Mc Nair Road) will be closed while work is underway. Work is expected to take three weeks.
Late last year Council sunk a bore in Frontier Road, this bore is now in full operation supplying 1.2million litres of water per day. But, Council still need another 1.8million litres of water per day to comfortably provide enough water for Te Awamutu.
Three other test bores have also been sunk at Te Tahi, Pirongia and Taylors Hill in recent months, however these could not supply enough water and have been discounted.
