Peake Road makeover on way
3 March 2016
Peake Road in Cambridge is to receive a major upgrade.
Waipa District Council signed off on the million dollar project on Tuesday, clearing the way for work to begin immediately.
The opening of the Waikato Expressway has seen a surge in traffic volumes along Peake Road. Council staff estimate around 1,500 vehicles per day are now using it.
The road seal will be replaced and widened by three metres and will also be re-shaped and strengthened. Dedicated cycle lanes will be installed on both sides of the road to cater for the increasing number of cyclists now using that route.
Work will begin in a few weeks and will be undertaken by Inframax Construction Ltd following a tender process. Work should be completed by the end of May.
