Playgrounds getting facelift
18 June 2018
Two playgrounds in Cambridge and Te Awamutu will be getting a $40,000 facelift in the next few weeks.
Playgrounds at Victoria Park in Te Awamutu and Kings Garden Reserve in Cambridge are both set to get new equipment as part of Waipa District Council's asset renewal programme.
Community facilities manager Bruce Airey says the new equipment makes sure we are keeping our playgrounds up to a national standard. The current equipment is old, in need of repairs and costly to maintain.
We want to make sure our playgrounds are a safe place for children and their families to use. It's been over 25 years since we upgraded the equipment at Victoria Park and nearly 10 years for Kings Garden Reserve, so it's great to be able to give them a fresh new look.
There's a lot of talk about destination playgrounds, but maintaining our existing neighbourhood playgrounds to a high standard is just as important to Council, he says.
Changes include replacing the old equipment at Victoria Park and installing new swings at Kings Garden Reserve which are better suited for the park.
Existing equipment has already been removed and the new equipment is being installed in the next two weeks. Airey says construction should be completed by the end of the month and thanks the community for their patience while the work is done.
