Praise for netball parking
9 May 2016
Inconsiderate parkers at Te Awamutu netball courts seem to have got the message that poor parking cannot be tolerated.
Waipa District Council enforcement staff were at the courts on Saturday, responding to complaints from residents in Mangahoe and Mangapiko Streets. The residents have reported cars parking over driveways and on verges and have expressed safety concerns.
Senior enforcement officer Ken Danby said parking this weekend was in much better shape with no cars obstructing driveways and very few other issues. Ten warning letters were issued to cars parked on yellow lines or on traffic islands, but no parking tickets were issued.
Danby said he and his staff were relieved and grateful that warnings issued last week appear to have been heard.
Handing out parking tickets to netballers or their supporters is the last thing we want to do on a weekend so we're really happy with the response.
Danby confirmed enforcement officers would continue to patrol the area on Saturday mornings during netball season to keep parking on track.
The council has discussed the issue with the Te Awamutu netball centre, asking for their help to keep parking in check.
