Register your dog now for the chance to win!
1 June 2017
Waipa dog owners who register their dogs before the end of this month may never have to pay registration fees again.
Waipa District Council are once again offering the chance to win free registration for your dog's life for all those who pay their registration fees by 30 June. The prize applies for as long as the dog remains in the Waipa.
Council introduced this incentive last year which resulted in majority of dog owners registering their dog by the due date. All dogs registered by the end of June 2017 will automatically go into the draw for this prize.
Environmental Services Team Leader, Karl Tutty, says he was impressed with the response to registrations in 2016, and hopes we can do even better this year.
It's great to be able to offer an incentive to those people who register their dog on time, but great prize aside, registering your dog on time is the right thing to do. It's part of being a responsible owner, it saves you money and it means we can continue to deliver our Animal Control services.
Registration fees are used to provide Council services such as a 24-hour dog control service, maintain pound facilities, maintain exercise areas and signage, provide doggy doo' bins and bags at selected areas, as well as public education initiatives and administration costs.
By law, all dogs in New Zealand must be registered by three months of age. In Waipa, the fee to register urban-based dogs is $89, reduced to $64 if dogs are neutered and kept in a fenced section. Rural dogs cost $50 each to register.
Fees can be paid online at www.waipadc.govt.nz/dogs or in person at Council offices and can be refunded if the dog dies or leaves New Zealand.
All dogs being registered for the first time after 1 July 2006 (with the exception of dogs classified as working dogs) must also be microchipped.
