Improvements for Te Awamutu pool

Waipa Community Facilities Trust is to invest more than half a million dollars making critical improvements to the Livingstone Aquatic Centre in Te Awamutu.
Yesterday, Waipa District Council's Service Delivery Committee approved up to $600,000 for the Trust to replace the existing pool filters and install UV units at the same time. The work will mean cleaner water for the pools and improve air quality inside the complex. The Trust manages the Te Awamutu pool and Cambridge pools on behalf of Council.
Barry Bergin, group manager service delivery said replacing the filters now will minimise disruption to the pool in the long run.
A recent assessment of the pool showed us that the state of filters was poor and the current filter system has already exceeded its expected life-span. By proactively replacing these filters now we can avoid a long, unscheduled closure. That's the last thing we want," he said.
As well as making sure Te Awamutu residents have a clean, safe swimming pool to use, the new filters when paired with the UV units are better for the environment and will reduce hazardous waste to land fill.
Yesterday's Committee approved estimated costs of $303,000 for the pressure filters and $170,000 for UV units, as well as additional costs for associated works such as building and electrical.
