It's official. Waipa District Council has decided there will be no Easter Sunday trading in the district.
The decision was confirmed at a Council meeting this morning, following public consultation. It means that, unless Waipa businesses have an exemption under existing government legislation, they will not be allowed to trade on Easter Sunday.
Mayor Jim Mylchreest, deputy mayor Grahame Webber and councillor Bruce Thomas voted against most Waipa shops having to remain closed.
Councillor Andrew Brown, a Te Awamutu-based retailer, abstained from voting.
