Waipa people quick to have say
31 March 2015
Waipa people have been quick to share their views on Waipa District Council's proposals for the next decade.
Already, 107 people have sent in formal submissions. Dozens more comments have been received via the council's facebook page and 15 video submissions involving around 60 high school students have been made.
Of the formal submissions received and analysed so far, 78 per cent have been made via the Council's website, www.futurewaipa.co.nz. Most others have come via the submisision form in the Council's official consultation booklet.
Many submissions largely support proposals outlined for the next decade. In terms of water, 78 per cent support the preferred option to address water issues in Te Awamutu. Nearly 70 per cent support proposed changes to the rating system.
Fifty-two per cent support Council's proposal to build a new 25 meter indoor pool and a learner's pool next to the existing 50 meter outdoor pool in Cambridge. Thirty-eight per cent of submitters oppose the pool proposal.
The proposal for a new museum at Te Awamutu is supported by 43 per cent of submitters with 51 per cent opposed. Just over half, 56 per cent, support the proposal to build a new cycleway from Te Awamutu to Kihikihi with 39 per cent of submitters opposed.
Seventy per cent of submitters support Council's proposal to upgrade Waipuke Park and 71 per cent agree Council should take a more active role in maintaining rural public drains.
A full analysis of submissions will be undertaken after consultation closes at 5pm on Monday, April 13.
