Walkway closed for maintenance
Lake Ngāroto's popular walking track will temporarily close next week for weed clearing work and track maintenance.
A section of gravel track is currently being upgraded to a timber boardwalk to improve its usage when the lake level rises. At the same time, contractors will carry out mulching work and mowing to clear overgrown areas around the lake.
Community facilities manager Bruce Airey said the work will make the track easier for people to use, especially when there has been lots of rain.
We know how much people like to use the walkway at Lake Ngāroto and improving this section of the track will make it a lot more accessible all year around.
The mulching work will improve access for our staff so they can better maintain the lake and will also tidy up the area, making it a more enjoyable walk for everyone, he said.
Weather permitting, work is expected to start on Monday 25 June and take five days. The track is expected to reopen in time for the weekend.
