A section of Te Awamutu's Pioneer Walkway in Memorial Park will be temporarily closed from next week while work is done to stabilise the banks of the Mangaohoi Stream.
Storm events over the last 12 months have left a 40m section of the stream bank behind the netball courts unstable. Work is needed to reinstate the streambank and protect it from further erosion.
The work will require heavy machinery and will involve building up the bank with rock boulders. Walkway pavers will be lifted and stored in advance of the works and then reinstated once work is complete.
Signs will be erected at each end of the works, directing users around the affected section. Vehicle access across the lower carpark at Memorial Park will also be impacted during the week as it will be used by the contractors. However, the lower carpark will be available during the weekends for netball players, supporters and officials.
Weather permitting, work is expected to begin on Monday 16 April and take around two weeks.
