A busy season of events is around the corner for Waipā, with 51 events receiving funding from Waipā District Council.
More than $187,500 was allocated from this year’s District Promotion Fund to support 37 events that promote the Waipā district as an attractive place to live, work, invest and visit.
A further $39,000 was allocated from the Community Event Fund to support 14 grassroots events which build and celebrate community pride.
A range of events for people of all ages and interests have been supported including sports events, music festivals, theatre shows and remembrance events.
A number of food and lifestyle events have received funding this year, showcasing Waipā restaurants, cafes, growers, producers and service providers.
Mayor Jim Mylchreest said Council has a strong focus on supporting and promoting events to help to bolster the economy as it recovers from Covid-19.
“It’s fantastic to see a mixture of multiday events returning to Waipā, and also new events that we’ll be hosting in our district for the first time,” said Mylchreest.
“We realise the huge impact local events will have on the district’s recovery in the next 12 months. These events give us the chance to showcase all Waipā has to offer to both visitors to our district and residents.”
Mylchreest said events would play a major role in boosting community wellbeing.
“We know that events help to lift morale and bring people together. We look forward to watching these events come to Waipā and attractive visitors to the district.”
