BAU at Council’s public facilities
Restrictions have been removed at the Cambridge and Te Awamutu libraries and Te Awamutu Museum following a nationwide move to Alert Level 1 last night.
Limits on the number of people allowed into the libraries and museum at one time and how much time they could spend in each facility, which were in effect at Alert Level 2, are no longer in place.
Waipā District Council community services manager Sally Sheedy said both the libraries will also resume normal opening hours.
“We are pleased to let residents know the libraries will be open again for late nights on Wednesdays, Fridays and during the day on Saturdays. Regular hours are also in place at the museum.
“We know the reduced hours in place at Alert Level 2 made it difficult for some residents to enjoy these amazing facilities, so we are delighted to return to normal operating hours.”
Sheedy said hand sanitising stations and contact tracing would remain in place at all facilities.
“We strongly encourage residents to continue to keep track of their whereabouts using the NZ COVID Tracer app or by manually writing it down. It is a simple step which helps us to protect our community.”
Both libraries are now open from 9am – 5pm Mondays and Thursdays, 9.30am-5pm Tuesdays, 9am-8pm Wednesdays and Fridays, and 9.30am-1pm Saturdays. The Te Awamutu Museum is open from 10am – 4pm on weekdays and 10am – 2pm on Saturdays.
Sheedy said regular events and programmes at the museum would also resume as normal from this week and at the libraries after the school holidays.
“Due to the restrictions which were in place, the museum was operating education classes virtually and both libraries were running programmes such as Toddler Time and Wriggle and Rhyme online.
“Now we are back at Alert Level 1, we are excited to welcome residents back to the libraries and to the museum to take part in these programmes.”
All three facilities will have school holiday programmes running in early October.
From 28 September, children will be able to collect a holiday pack from either library to take part in the “It’s a school holiday safari” program.
Meanwhile, creative workshops including Putiputi flower weaving, Tipare headband weaving and Rourou basket weaving will be held at the Te Awamutu Museum.
