Financial Strategy
What our Financial Strategy does
Our Financial Strategy forms a key part of the 2025-34 Long Term Plan (LTP) and sets the direction for how we will responsibly manage Waipā’s finances over the next nine years. It helps ensure we can continue to look after our assets, deliver the services our community relies on, and support growth, while keeping debt and rates at sustainable levels.
The strategy focuses on:
- Fixing the balance sheet - addressing previous funding shortfalls and ensuring water services are fully funded
- Maintaining and renewing core infrastructure - especially our critical water, wastewater and transport assets
- Providing for growth - making sure infrastructure is in place ahead of development
- Keeping rates as affordable as possible - while still meeting legislative requirements and agreed service levels
- Supporting community priorities - including vibrant towns, strong heritage, environmental stewardship, and climate action
- Planning with the future in mind - aligning with Ahu Ake – Waipā Community Spatial Plan and preparing for future infrastructure demands
By staying on track with this strategy, we can build a more financially resilient future and ensure Waipā remains a great place to live, work, play and invest.
Progress against the outcomes set in the strategy is reported each year through the Annual Report.
